Safonov – A Collection of Problems on District Heating and Heating Networks
The book provides examples and test problems on the energy efficiency of district heating, heat consumption and heat supply modes, hydraulic and thermal calculations, and the heating equipment of combined heat and power plants (CHPs), heating substations, and networks.
The second edition of the textbook “A Collection of Problems on District Heating and Heating Networks” was published in 1968. Significant developments in the science and technology of district heating and heating networks since the publication of the second edition necessitated appropriate revisions.
The structure of the new edition of the textbook corresponds to the fifth edition of Professor E. Ya. Sokolov’s textbook “District Heating and Heating Networks,” intended for students majoring in heat engineering at power engineering universities and faculties.

The third edition of this textbook has been significantly revised to reflect the content of the aforementioned fifth edition, including: in the examples, turbines with an initial pressure of 3.5 and 9 MPa are now shown with cogeneration turbines with an initial pressure of 13 MPa;
Examples of iterative calculations of temperature and hydraulic regimes using the Nairi-2 computer are provided;
examples are given for redundancy in main heating networks and determining the freezing time of water in a pipeline during an emergency; technical and economic calculations are performed taking into account new cost indicators.
In the third edition of Safonov’s book – A Collection of Problems on District Heating and Heating Networks, all numerical examples are presented in SI units.
The final results of thermal calculations related to the design and operation of heating networks are also given in thermal units based on the calorie.
